DU Pioneers men’s basketball head coach Joe Scott announced Tuesday that Nate Rohnert and Dan Ficke will join his coaching staff as assistants in the upcoming season.  They will replace departing associate head coach Mike McKee and assistant coach A.J. Kuhle.

“We are pleased to add Nate and Dan as assistant coaches,” Scott said. “Both coaches have Colorado roots. Their energy and enthusiasm will be very beneficial to our players and program moving forward.”

Rohnert played basketball for the Pioneers from 2007-10, winning multiple All-Sun Belt First Team awards and finishing 5th all-time in games played with 120 and 12th in points scored with 1,306.  After graduation, Rohnert played professionally in Europe for three seasons on teams in France and Germany, among others.

Rohnert was a basketball star at Chaparral High School from 2003-06, winning two All-State awards in 2005 and 2006.

Rohnert will be joined by Ficke, who had coached at Loyola University in Maryland for the past two seasons and also played there from 2005-09.  During his time as a player, Ficke was a member of the team that set the university record for most wins in a season with 19 in 2007-08.  Before becoming a coach at Loyola, Ficke was on the Wake Forest staff, assisting in scouting and team operations.

Ficke played high school basketball at Regis Jesuit in Aurora, earning All-Colorado Second Team and All-America honorable mention honors.

Rohnert and Ficke will look to improve a Pioneers team that was 12-18 overall and 6-10 in the Summit League last year.
