Denver opened the scoring at 2:51 of the first period with Jake Durflinger’s second goal of the season. Terry started the play, carrying the puck through the neutral zone before feathering a pass to Dylan Gambrell whose shot rebounded to Durflinger in front of the net.

One minute after taking a 1-0 lead, the Pioneers went on the power play and Colin Staub found a loose puck outside the crease to extend the lead. Liam Finlay and Adam Plant had assists on the play.

Boston University responded to Denver’s early goals with a pair of its own. First, Ty Amonte received a pass from Drew Melanson and buried the shot past Pioneers goalie Tanner Jaillet to cut the lead in half. About two minutes later, the Terriers went on the power play and a between-the-legs pass from Jordan Greenway set up Bobo Carpenter for a goal at 12:38 of the first.

Before the end of the first period, Denver struck on the power play for the second time in the game. At 18:28 of the first period, Henrik Borgström took the puck from Gambrell, fired a shot on net and Staub quickly located the rebound to put the Pioneers in front, 3-2, at the first intermission.

Terry appeared to give Denver a two-goal lead early in the second period, but the play was reviewed and reversed. The Pioneers had another opportunity for a two-goal advantage on a power play midway through the frame, but the opportunity yielded only a lengthy possession and flurry of shots. Boston University had a similar power play midway through the third period, but Jaillet turned away every shot to preserve Denver’s 3-2 lead.

After an onslaught of shots, the Terriers finally evened the game with 6:39 remaining in regulation on Dante Fabbro’s shot from the point through traffic.

Terry’s game-winning goal came on a wrist shot from the left circle. Staub had the only assist on the goal.

Staub finished with two goals and one assist. Terry finished with one goal and one assist. Gambrell finished with two assists. Jaillet made 26 saves in his 100th career appearance.

Denver went 2/4 on the power play and 4/5 on the penalty kill.
