Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari has missed nine games with torn ligaments in his ankles, and it seems as if his season may be over with.

Head coach Michael Malone said the Italian is still weeks away from a return.

“Yeah, I’d say he’s weeks away,” Malone said. “That would be the best way I could phrase it without having a definitive timetable.”

Gallinari suffered tears in his ankles in February, and has been sidelined since.

Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post reports that Gallo was on the court prior to the team’s games against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat, shooting and doing some basketball activities as he rehabs from injury.

Initial reports said that Gallinari would be out roughly a month, but with the way the season is headed, there doesn’t seem to be much incentive to bring Gallo back and risk further aggravation.

Gallo was in the midst of a career year, averaging 19.5 points per game.
