Richard Jefferson is set to clear waivers Monday night after being waived by the Atlanta Hawks; completing a trade that was consummated with Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday. The Denver Nuggets are among the teams that have joined the pursuit of the veteran forward according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The 37-year old forward averaged 5.7 PPG and 2.6 RPG in 79 regular season contests, playing 20.4 minutes per game last year. He started 13 games and was a pivotal contributor to the bench unit.
Denver has 15 guaranteed contracts and would have to make a roster move to clear an available spot for Jefferson. The team has two two-way contracts in Torrey Craig and Monte Morris.
In late March President and team Governor Josh Kroenke appeared with Jefferson and co-host Channing Frye on their podcast called “Road Trippin”. There he revealed that he and Jefferson have a strong friendship. The addition of the veteran small forward would bring championship experience and leadership to a young team poised to have a strong season.
