The Denver Nuggets announced today that they have signed guard Brandon Goodwin to a two-way contract and have waived DeVaugn Akoon-Purcell to make room on the roster.
Denver signed Goodwin on November 29th with an injury hardship relief exception and just recently released him with the signing of Nick Young, who they signed to the same type of contract. Goodwin was not off the Nuggets roster long though as he is back after appearing in 10 G-League games so far this season. In his 10 games with the Memphis Hustle, Goodwin is averaging 23 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. Goodwin has also played well on the defensive end of the floor averaging 1.7 steals per game, while also shooting a highly efficient 52 percent from the field.
After going undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft, Goodwin signed with the Memphis Grizzlies summer league team following a four-year collegiate career at UCF (2013-15) and Florida Gulf Coast (2016-18). During his senior year at Gulf Coast, Goodwin averaged 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in route to winning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year. Following a solid senior season and Summer League in Las Vegas, Goodwin was then invited to Grizzlies training camp before being waived and signed to their G-League team in Memphis.
To make room for Goodwin, Denver had to release Akoon-Purcell, who appeared in seven games for the Nuggets this season. Akoon-Purcell recently occupied one of the Nuggets two-way contracts — Thomas Welsh occupies the other — and signed with Denver this offseason after a solid performance at Summer League.
