PREVIEW: Rockies host Cardinals in huge weekend series

Colorado Rockies (70-57, second place in NL West, 8-2 in their last 10 games) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (71-57, second place in NL Central, 8-2 in their last 10 games).

The series’ pitching matchups will look like this:

Friday, August 24 at 6:40 pm MT: Antonio Senzatela (4-3, 4.47 ERA) vs. Miles Mikolas (13-3, 2.80 ERA)

Senzatela (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 K) was left with a no-decision in his last start against the Braves. Senzatela has allowed two earned runs or less in each of his last three starts and is 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA in his career against the Cardinals.

Mikolas (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 7 K) was lights-out and earned the win in his last start against the Brewers. Mikolas has been the ace of the Cardinals’ pitching staff in 2018 and currently leads St. Louis in wins (13) and ERA (2.80).

Saturday, August 25 at 6:10 pm MT: German Marquez (11-9, 4.42 ERA) vs. John Gant (5-5, 3.76 ERA)

Marquez (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5 K) pitched well and earned the win in his last start against the Braves. Marquez has won his last two starts and is 2-0 with a 2.53 ERA in his career against St. Louis.

Gant (4.1 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 K) took the loss in his last start against the Brewers. Gant has only pitched into the sixth inning twice in his last nine starts and has never faced the Rockies in his career.

Sunday, August 26 at 1:10 pm MT: Tyler Anderson (6-6, 4.45 ERA) vs. Austin Gomber (3-0, 2.98 ERA)

Anderson (6.1 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 8 K) took the loss in his last start against the Padres. Anderson has been subpar for the Rockies lately and has not won an outing since July 4. The southpaw is 0-3 with a 9.15 ERA in his last four starts and is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in his career against the Cardinals.

Gomber (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 K) was left with a no-decision in his last start against the Dodgers. Gomber has won two of his last three starts and is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA against the Rockies in his career.
