The Denver Broncos landed the playmaking tight end Jake Butt out of Michigan, landing the Ozzie Newsome and John Mackey Award winner with the No. 145 pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Although the 6-foot-6, 250-pound Butt could miss a chunk of the 2017 season recovering from an ACL injury suffered in the Orange Bowl, Broncos Country went wild with the selection.

Over the past two years, Denver has yielded just six touchdowns from the tight end position, including only two from the position in 2016. At Michigan, Butt scored 11 touchdowns, including four last year. Butt is expected to send those numbers back to where they were in 2013 and ’14, when weapons like Julius Thomas recorded 12 touchdowns in each season.

In a win against Colorado early in 2016, Butt had seven catches for 87 yards.

John Elway was thrilled about the pick. The team at Mile High Sports was ecstatic as well, as were a number of other members of the Denver media. Here’s what they had to say about Denver’s big Butt pick…

Of course, the Butt jokes were… prevalent…

Butt clearly is in on the joke, with his own Twitter handle @JBooty_88
