When Brock Osweiler took over for an injured Peyton Manning as the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback, the question became: How well does he have to play to earn the job for good? Well, two wins, a 14-point comeback against the reigning champs, an AFC Offensive Player of the Week award and the cover of Sports Illustrated probably would have been a solid benchmark.

So with a healthy Manning, who’ll start for the Broncos at quarterback?

According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, the Denver Broncos quarterback controversy is a moot point; Brock Osweiler is their man going forward.

But those are some pretty big, and obvious, caveats, aren’t they?

In reality, all this report tells us is that the Broncos aren’t going to take Osweiler out if he keeps winning, but they reserve every right to change their mind; that seems like less of a report and more like common sense to me.

The fact of the matter is that the Broncos haven’t made a decision yet, and, more importantly, they don’t need to. Yes, Brock is playing very well, and if he continues to perform like this, he’ll earn the starting spot. At the same time, Manning is not healthy; he couldn’t play if the Broncos wanted him to.

Hence, the Broncos response to the report:

If Manning is healthy heading into the postseason, they’ll reevaluate then. But until that point, Broncos Country, let’s just ride the wave.
