The Colorado Rockies announced Wednesday that they have agreed to terms with three of their selections from the 2020 First-Year Player Draft: outfielder Zac Veen, selected in the first round out of Spruce Creek HS in Port Orange, Fla., left-handed pitcher Sam Weatherly, selected in the third round out of Clemson University, and shortstop Jack Blomgren, selected in the fifth round out of the University of Michigan. Per Club policy, terms of the agreements will not be disclosed.

Zac Veen, the third outfielder ever selected by Colorado with their first overall pick, is a 6-foot-4, 201-pound left-handed hitter who batted .500 with 15 runs, four doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and 17 stolen bases prior to the cancellation of the remainder of the season in which his Hawks got off to a 10-1 start … in 2019, he led the Hawks with a .414 batting average with 29 extra-base hits, 26 walks and 32 stolen bases.

On May 21, Veen was named the Gatorade Florida Baseball Player of the Year for 2019-20, and was a 2019 Perfect Game All-American … was also selected to play in the 2020 Under Armour All-American Game and the Perfect Game All-America Classic, and was ranked by Prep Baseball Report as the top recruit in the class of 2020.

Sam Weatherly, a left-handed pitcher out of Clemson University, was selected by Colorado in the third round (81st overall) … as a junior, went 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA (22.2 IP, 2 ER), 14 walks and 43 strikeouts across four starts for the Tigers in 2020 … the 6-foot-4, 215-pound native of Howell, Mich., spent the 2019 season exclusively as a reliever and went 2-0 with a 3.37 ERA (29.1 IP, 11 ER), 30 walks and 46 strikeouts … across 39 appearances with nine starts in his college career, combined to go 4-0 with a 3.48 ERA (72.1 IP, 28 ER), 61 walks and 106 strikeouts … was originally selected by Toronto in the 27th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign … made 11 appearances (one start) for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2019, going 0-1 with a 4.32 ERA (16.2 IP, 8 ER) with 18 strikeouts.

Jack Blomgren, a junior from the University of Michigan, was selected with Colorado’s sixth and final pick of the 2020 Draft in the fifth round … the 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter batted .286 with three doubles and one home run in 2020, reaching base in all 15 games before the season was cancelled … in 2019, was named All-Big Ten Second Team and was named to the NCAA College World Series All-Tournament Team after totaling nine hits in the Wolverines’ run to the College World Series Championship game … in 137 career games across three seasons with the Wolverines, the Milton, Wis., native batted .276 (127-for-460) with 18 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 71 RBI and 18 stolen bases.
