Country music legend Conway Twitty owned a youth football team. Who’d have thought? And who’d have thought the Broncos defense would be the biggest positive going for the team after last season? And it’s safe to say no one would have thought the Broncos would be entering Week 4 with such a patchwork offensive line.

Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla joined Gil Whiteley on Mile High Sports AM 1340 on Friday to discuss those and other brain teasers. Chief among those are the recently developed news that Ryan Harris will be starting at left tackle for the Broncos in place of the injured Ty Sambrailo.

The bigger, and perhaps more frightening news for Peyton Manning, is that second-year player Michael Schofield will be playing right tackle. Kiszla says that’s bad news for the offense.

“He stunk,” he told Whiteley, when describing Schofield’s play on the practice field as Kiszla has observed it. He went on to describe Schofield as inadequate and noted that he holds nothing against the young player and wishes him success. But nothing Kiszla has seen from Schofield has inspired any confidence that he can get the job done on Sunday.

Kiszla and Whitley had much more to say on the topic. Give the podcast below a listen…
