Per an announcement from Manager Bud Black, reliever Seunghwan Oh is likely done for the year.

Oh originally went on the 10-day injured list on June 10th, but his workload since has created the needed for a clean up of his pitching elbow. The operation will take place in the coming weeks back in Korea.

Originally from South Korea, Oh was dealt to the Rockies by the Toronto Blue Jays after an abbreviated stint with the latter. In his two seasons with the club, including 2019, he appeared in 46 games and pitched 39.2 innings. Across his chances with the club, Oh posted a 5.67 earned run average

The injury also likely ends Oh’s stint in Major League Baseball.

Entering the final year with the Rockies, he’d already voiced a desire to return back to South Korea to finish out his playing career. Now, with his season over, along with his remaining deal with the franchise, he will likely return to the place where his career started.

Oh spent four years in the majors after signing with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016 as a free agent. Across 232 appearances, he posted a 3.31 ERA in the MLB. Serving as the closer for the Cardinals, he was able to tally 39 of his 42 career saves.

Dubbed the “Final Boss,” Oh was able to lock down 357 saves before coming to the United States. He spent nine of his 11 seasons in South Korea with the Samsung Lions.

The loss of Oh continues a trend for the Rockies of losing bullpen arms. Mike Dunn and Chris Rusin were designated for assignment earlier in the year, as well as the loss of Wade Davis and Harrison Musgrave to separate injured-list stints.
