Charley Casserly knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl. While the general manager of the Washington Redskins, he saw his team play in four, winning three. So, how far does he think the Denver Broncos are from getting back to the big game?

“It depends on the quarterback play,” Casserly told Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro during The Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports Radio. “We know they’ve got to get better on the offensive line, they’ve got to get the running game going, they’ve got to improve their defensive line. There are a number of issues there.”

Another team with a lot of issues is the San Francisco 49ers. On Sunday, they made a surprise hire in John Lynch, who despite having no NFL front office experience, was named general manager.

“Any time you hire somebody outside of the profession, and he [Lynch] is outside of the profession, broadcasting is not scouting or personnel work or contract negotiations, it is surprising,” Casserly said of the Lynch hire. “who’s going to teach John Lynch to be a general manager?”
