Well, if you were waiting for John Elway to make one of his patented win-now moves, here you go:

Drop the mic.

In the span of 24 hours, the Denver Broncos depantsed Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, proved Peyton Manning is still in fact Peyton Manning and traded for two-time Pro Bowler Vernon Davis. As Ice Cube said, “Today was a good day.”

And as our very own James Merilatt said, this could be a HUGE move for Manning and his offense.

After over a decade of using the tight end position better than just about anyone, Manning seemingly couldn’t get it going with either Green or Daniels through the first six games of the season. On Sunday night, though, something seemed to click, and the two tight ends caught a combined six receptions for 105 yards.

That’s not a coincidence, either. Manning needs an elite tight end to be running at full capacity, and Sunday’s performance proved that.

And for whatever you think of Davis, I can promise you that he is a significantly better option than anyone on the Broncos roster. Davis’ production has fallen off a cliff these last two years, but to be fair, so has his quarterback Colin Kaepernick‘s.

Now, he’s coming into the perfect situation. Not only does he have a rejuvenated Manning throwing him the ball, but he’ll never be seen as anything more than the third-biggest threat on the field at any given time. If he can get back to playing anything like he did three years ago — 52 receptions, 850 yards, 13 touchdowns — the Broncos offense could start looking a lot more like the 2013 version that set the world on fire.

But most importantly, Manning needs Davis. He needs a tight end that can dominate down the middle of the field; he needs his security blanket.

We’ve seen how much losing Julius Thomas has affected Manning, both this season and while Thomas was injured last season. Apparently, so did Elway.
