While Denver Broncos fans are more than ready to begin the Brock Osweiler era, it’s far from a sure thing. As Peyton Manning delays his retirement decision, it’s becoming more and more likely that Osweiler will reach the open market, and that means he’ll be looking for a big payday.
And if the Broncos aren’t willing to give him that, then some other franchise will be quick to pull the trigger.
In that scenario, the question then becomes: Who plays quarterback for the Denver Broncos?
As James Merilatt argued today, Peyton Manning may actually be the best option; that is, obviously, given that he does decide to return.
If that doesn’t work, though, maybe the draft is the next best option, and according to WalterFootball.com, the Broncos have a few quarterbacks on their mind.
“Even if Osweiler is re-signed, drafting a quarterback early in the 2016 NFL draft is definitely in play for Denver. The Broncos loved North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz, but know that he won’t be getting anywhere near Denver’s pick. However, the team also is enamored with Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott. He is a good fit in Gary Kubiak‘s offense and sources say that Prescott is in play for the Broncos on the second-day of the draft.”
Wentz would be nice, but based on nearly every projection, he’ll be a top-10 pick, which means the Broncos are out of luck. Prescott, though, is a very real possibility.
Prescott, who was a Heisman candidate for much of his 2014 season, is expected to go in the mid-rounds of the NFL draft, which is well within reason for the Denver Broncos.
Through his career at Mississippi State, Prescott completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 70 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. Plus, he put up another 2,521 yards and 41 touchdowns on the ground.

Even if it’s in a developmentally role, Prescott would be an interesting addition to the Denver Broncos.
