Colorado Springs has received some sad news. According to BaseballAmerica.com, their beloved baseball team, the Sky Sox, will be meeting with the San Antonio city council to announce their intentions of moving the franchise out of the Mile High and into the Lone Star State. Though the date hasn’t been set, it looks like the Triple-A team will be packing things up at Security Service Field and heading to Texas.

The Sky Sox have been in Colorado Springs since 1988, providing families in the southern part of Colorado with affordable entertainment for the last two-plus decades. Though the Triple-A team was dropped as an affiliate of the Rockies before the start of the 2015 season, their fan base remained, as he team’s attendance surpassed 300,000 fans for a seventh straight season, despite their not-so-impressive standings in the PCL North Division.

The Elmer Sports group, owners of the Sky Sox and Double-A San Antonio Missions, have been causing speculation about the move for quite some time, and now seeming to be more likely than ever. The group plans to meet with the San Antonio city council in the upcoming week to discuss the transition.

After a vote in November, residents in Amarillo, Texas approved a proposal for a downtown ballpark worth $48 million dollars, and now they are looking for a Triple-A team to play there.

It’s not a done deal, but the writing seems to be on the wall. We should learn more this week
