Thursday morning, Sporting News released its preseason All-Mountain West team with three Colorado State Rams being acknowledged. Wide receiver Rashard Higgins, tight end Steven Walker and defensive end Joe Kawulok were all named to the 11-person first team voted by coaches and media.

Higgins led all NCAA FBS receivers in 2014 with 1,750 yards and 17 touchdowns, both CSU single-season records. He became the Rams’ first consensus first-team All-American since 1995, and the third in school history. He and UNLV’s Devonte Boyd are the only two receivers honored, while Walker is the only tight end. Last month, Higgins was also named to the Sporting News Preseason All-America first team, the only player from a non-major conference to receive the honor.

As for Walker, he played in all 13 games (starting 10) where he hauled in 30 receptions for 279 yards and four touchdowns which led him to an All-Mountain West honors.

On the defensive side, Kawulok earned starts in all 13 contests and was in on 38.5 combined tackles—five of them for a loss and 3.5 sacks. He also blocked an extra point kick at Boise State.

Last year Colorado State posted its best season since 2000, going 10-3 in 2014.
