The Denver Broncos have failed to find consistency at the quarterback position since the retirement of Peyton Manning, but that may change this year as Case Keenum was brought in this offseason to help fill the void — and head coach Vance Joseph has been impressed with what he has seen from his new starting quarterback. “The quarterback, he can make the offensive line better by getting rid of the football, and Case [Keenum] does that. It’s a combination of playcalling and getting rid of the football. He’s great at it.”

Joseph hinted Wednesday that success in training camp does not necessarily mean success during the regular season. “This team gets it. We’re humble, we’re hungry, we have work to do and the players understand that. It looks great to you guys, I’m sure, but to us, we get it. It’s a long road to winning football games. We are being very humble with this thing.”

Keenum ranked seventh in the NFL last season in passer rating (98.3), and Joseph made it clear that his ability to throw the football down the field is special. “He completes the ball. That’s what the good ones do. If It’s any free access on the field, he finds it, and that’s his special trait. He’s accurate, he finds the open guy, he completes the ball, that’s huge for us.”

The Broncos have a young running back room and Joseph indicated that there is a lot of talent competing against one another. “They’re looking good, especially in pass pro [protection]. They’re all doing a good job right now. It’s a heavy competition. It’s going to be fun to see how it finishes.”
