With the dust finally settling from the Tony Romo and Denver Broncos rumored relationship, the Mile High City can finally settle down and get to work. Now one final question remains clouding the quarterback position: Will the job fall to Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch?
The answer can only come from the two individuals themselves, and the quality of work that they put out on the field throughout the duration of the preseason.
“I was OK with the guys that we had,” said outside linebacker Von Miller. “Every single year you see quarterbacks turnover. You saw it in Dallas from a rookie quarterback just take off. I feel like Trevor and Paxton both have the potential to do that.” Siemian took on the brunt of the workload for the 2016 season, with starting 14 games, throwing for 18 touchdowns and putting up a total of 3,401 yards. On the other end of the spectrum, Lynch started in two games, throwing for a total of 497 yards and put up two touchdowns.
“Those guys are ready to work,” said wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. “I’ve been talking to both of them. I’m fine with playing with either one, whoever becomes the top guy. I’m just excited for both of them for the opportunity.”
With the two prospective quarterbacks already in house, the Broncos front office has brought in a new offensive executive that will be charged with growing and developing these two individuals: offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.
“We have playmakers and we’ve got good coaches to call the plays,” said Thomas. “We’ve got two quarterbacks that can play and you’ve got running backs out the backfield, offensive line. It’s about going out and executing now.”
