The following is a press release from the City of Denver:

Willis Case Golf Course, in conjunction with First Tee Denver and GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents
Association of America) hosted an innovative environmental education outreach event that used the golf course
as an environmental learning lab. Willis Case Superintendent, Steve Schommer, welcomed 45 fifth graders from
Centennial Elementary nearby for the First Green event, Tuesday, Sept. 28th. Students went through stations and
learned Cool Tools on the Green, Plants and the Environment, Soils, Golf Course Operations, and Seeds and
Landscape Plants. Students even got to plant and take home their own pot of grass to water and grow. In
addition, there were also two stations where students were able to hit golf balls and putt to get introduced to the
game by First Tee Denver. Denver Golf plans to host more of these kinds of events to promote growth of the
game and expose kids to the golf industry.

The First Green Program focuses on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) principles where students get
hands-on learning opportunities in a real-life setting. First Green curriculum benefits students in middle school to 12th

grade by helping them apply their classroom knowledge in an outdoor setting. To learn more about First Green visit
