AP’s Arnie Stapleton could see the Broncos kicking the tires on a veteran QB

Although Trevor Siemian was recently voted a Pro Bowl alternate, the Denver Broncos’ quarterback situation has been a hot topic. Associated Press columnist Arnie Stapleton joined Renaud Notaro and Dan Jacobs of The Final Verdict on Mile High Sports Radio to discuss whether or not the Broncos will go after a veteran quarterback this offseason.

“He [Elway] may decide, ‘hey, I don’t want to, you know, live with the mistakes that I’ve lived with this season and blow another year of this great defense, when this defense has a chance to bring home trophies like it did last year.’ Maybe he’ll decide to kick the tires on a Romo.”

Further discussing the topic of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Stapleton stated, “I could see maybe a Tony Romo situation just because I would think they are going to release him so he wouldn’t be having to deal with trades and everything else.”

Stapleton didn’t think Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers would be as attainable for the Broncos.

“I think it would be hard to get and realistically talk about Rivers, because I don’t know why the Chargers would let go of their best commodity when they’re going into a new city, and certainly not to a fellow AFC West rival that’s already built to win championships and just needs a good quarterback, like Rivers.”

Stapleton also didn’t think Elway is opposed to the idea of shopping veteran quarterbacks around the league, like he did when Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler left for Houston.

“He kicked the tires on a bunch of guys,” he said. “I could see him doing it again.”
