Denver at Tampa Bay: Trap Game? Who has the edge?

The Denver Broncos have been rolling through the early stages of the NFL season to this point. Denver has recorded three wins against three playoff caliber teams. The next challenge for the Broncos is a road game against the 1-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At first glance, this should be an easy win for Denver. However, this is the NFL and we all know better.

The first sketchy thing about this game is that it will be played in the state of Florida. The Broncos are just 4-11 all-time in regular season games played in Florida. This record does include a 2-1 record in Tampa. Travel and early starts have proved problematic for Denver in Florida in the past. The Broncos are getting a break with the NFL making this a late start.

The second reason to worry about Denver in this one is this is a possible “trap” game. When fans saw a road game with Tampa on the schedule when it came out, not many probably felt it was a likely spot where the champs would be upset. The fact of the matter is the Broncos are coming off three very physical games against very good teams. It may just be in the cards for a letdown after three playoff type wins to begin the season.

These things will all play a role in the final score of the game. But, the Broncos should still win this one. Denver’s defense is too strong for a developing offense that will most likely be without Doug Martin. Also, Tampa is allowing the most points against so far in the NFL, which is good news for Denver’s upstart offense and Trevor Siemian.

If you need an extra kicker to help you feel more confident heading into this one, the Broncos are a mind-blowing 16-3 against the NFC, including Super Bowls since the beginning of the 2012 season. That is a dominant statistic, which really should continue.

I have Denver going to 4-0. I think they roll the Bucs, 30-6. Happy Sunday!
