Familiar faces made going to the Steelers easier on Kordell Stewart

In 1995, quarterback Kordell Stewart traded in the black and gold from his days at the University of Colorado for the black and yellow of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It wasn’t all new faces in the Steel City for Stewart however, as the team already had a herd of Buffaloes.

Pittsburgh would select Stewart in the second round (60th overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft. When Stewart joined the Steelers, they had former Buffaloes Charles JohnsonRico SmithDeon Figures and Ariel Solomon. Johnson was a roommate of Stewart’s in Boulder.

Stewart would go on to play for the Steelers through the 2002 season. From there, he would go onto play with the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens.

Four Buffs were invited to this year’s NFL Scouting Combine: Chidobe Awuzie, Sefo Liufau, Tedric Thompson, and Ahkello Witherspoon. Of the group, three will likely hear their name called in the draft. Notable Buffaloes currently in the NFL include: Mason Crosby, Paul Richardson, Jimmy Smith and Nate Solder.
