For Will Parks, getting drafted is about a lot more than football

Earlier this year, Will Parks was drafted in the sixth round by the Denver Broncos, but that is only part of the story for Parks. Through this, he wants to strive for greatness and be an inspiration for his community.

“This is everybody’s goal to get to the NFL, but I have goals beyond that,” said Parks as he joined The Sports Guy Mike Show AM 1340 | FM 104.7 on Monday. “I don’t just want to get there. I want to establish some dominance or try to become a legend.”

And Parks’ perspective stems from his past. Growing up in Philadelphia, he’s seen what happens when someone doesn’t make the most of his life, and he’s vowed to never let that be the case.

“My dad was like listen and drove me past a jail cell, and he said ‘you never want to be here,’” Parks said. “It was nothing but a brick wall and two windows and I said, ‘na never that.’”

Now Parks is using his opportunity on the Broncos to represent his community and try to make himself the best of the best.

“Coming from where I came from, there are a lot of kids back home looking up to me now,” Parks said. “There are a lot of family members depending on me. Not just to do great, but to be the best person I can be. Using this sport as a tool, I want to become a better man in life. I’m going into this camp like, ‘I won this sixth round, but that doesn’t mean nothing.’”

For Parks, being an inspiration for the kids in his community is very important. He wants to use himself as a tool of motivation.

“This is one of the big things I pry myself on, is doing community service and putting a smile on these kid’s faces,” Parks said
