It’s June 1, meaning Colorado Rockies’ shortshop Jose Reyes is eligible to come back from his domestic violence suspension. Reyes has been sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque for a tune up, and so other teams can watch him.

After arriving via trade with Toronto in July 2015, Reyes was the Rockies’ primary shortshop after spending most of his 13-year career with the Mets and Blue Jays. During his career, he’s been an asset on the base paths, leading majors in stolen bases twice in his career and finishing six times in the top ten.

The veteran has a whopping $22 million contract this season with the Rockies without a single plate appearance. As much as he’s meant to the franchise in his brief stint in the Mile High City, Colorado could sure use that money to go after another player – especially since Trevor Story has already locked up the Rockies’ shortstop position.

Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that Reyes has been working out at the team’s spring training complex in Arizona for the past two weeks and will likely spend the same amount of time in the minors ahead of an uncertain future.

“You probably have to get him out there and showcase him,” David Hurlbut said on Mile High Sports Radio, “and basically show what he’s still got so he can audition for other teams.”
