Avalanche coach Jared Bednar made two notable announcements after practice at Family Sports Center on Saturday.

The biggest news involves the captain. Gabriel Landeskog, who leads the team with 30 goals, is out with a knee injury and will have surgery on Monday. Avs coach Jared Bednar clarified it wasn’t an ACL.

“It’s just been something that’s been nagging him for a little bit,” Bednar said. “We’ll know more after surgery.”

Bednar also said the team hopes to have Landeskog back in time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Bednar also said that defenseman Samuel Girard, who missed Thursday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes, will miss four weeks.
