Moore agrees to a three-year deal with the Texans

Rahim Moore became the latest free agent to leave the Denver Broncos when he flew to Houston on Thursday.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle first reported that the Houston Texans agreed with Moore to a three-year deal for $12 million.

Moore joins Orlando Franklin and Julius Thomas on the list of starting Broncos in 2014 to leave the team. Moore started in 48 regular season games and four playoff games in his four seasons with the Broncos.

John Elway drafted Moore in the second round of the 2011 draft out of UCLA. Moore immediately started his first five games in the NFL and was consistent enough in his four seasons to become highly coveted this week in free agency.

After being the scapegoat in the demoralizing 2012 playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens and then suffering a serious acute lateral compartment syndrome injury in his leg in 2013, Moore bounced back in 2014.

He led the team in defensive snaps and started all of the team’s 17 games. He also tied the team with four interceptions on his way to an overall grade of 0.3 and 2.5 in coverage, per Pro Football Focus.

Moore’s $4 million dollars per-season salary seems quite low considering the market for free safeties and his recent play. Although Moore was quiet in the free agency process it appears that the Broncos once again were not interested in offering one of their former players a new deal.

The Denver Post’s Mike Klis reported early Thursday morning that the Broncos plan on meeting with former Ravens safety Darian Stewart later in the day.
