So, it seems the reason Mike Dunn may have allowed a hit and walked two batters in the eighth inning yesterday may have been because he’s injured.

According to Troy Renck, Dunn has been placed on the DL while starter Jeff Hoffman has been called up from Triple-A.

Yesterday, the Rockies led the Reds for most of the first eight innings of play thanks to Tyler Anderson’s great pitching and some solid offense as well. But, when Anderson’s day was done, Dunn came in to load the bases with no outs in the eighth inning. He was pulled and Scott Oberg entered the game, allowing two runs before Wade Davis gave up the game-tying run in the ninth. Colorado eventually lost in the 13th, 7-5. It was a true heartbreaker.

Dunn currently has a 9.00 ERA, the worst on the Rockies.

Hoffman went 6-5 in 23 games pitched last year for the Rockies, but has been playing in Triple-A Albuquerque this year. He’s gone 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA for the Isotopes in 10 games. Hoffman’s pitched 50.1 innings, giving up 50 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 61.

Colorado started the season off with solid pitching and sorry offense. And while the offense has come around, the pitching is starting to slip. The Rockies are likely hopeful Hoffman can come in to help right the ship on that side.
