According to Nick Groke of The Denver Post, Rockies fans have seen the last of rookie right-hander Jon Gray for the 2015 season.

Despite only pitching 40.2 innings at the big league level, Gray has accumulated 155 in total for the year between Denver and Albuquerque.

The Rockies may claim its to protect his young (23-year-old) arm. But it’s just as likely they want to protect his fragile psyche, which has been rattled of late pitching at Coors Field and has struggled over nine starts to earn his first win.

Eddie Butler, 24 and the Rockies other top pitching prospect, was optioned back to Triple-A earlier this year as he struggled at the Major League level. He maxed out at 142.2 (combined) innings after he was not activated when rosters expanded in September.
