Should the Denver Broncos be worried about DeMarcus Ware’s lingering back issues?

DeMarcus Ware was one of the catalysts for the Broncos run to a Super Bowl last season and he is the heart and soul of their defense. And with a resume like his, there’s no doubt that he’s a future Hall of Famer.

But at 34 years old, entering into his 12th season in the NFL, it’s only natural that he’d be feeling a little wear and tear. And with him sidelined so far through OTAs with a lingering back issue, that seems to be the case.

But should we be worried?

“Don’t worry about it,” David Hurlbut of the Morning Huddle said. “Its only May.”

But it’s not as if this is a unique incident. In fact, Ware already missed four games last season with a nagging back issue, and even the Broncos know that its continued presence is nothing to scoff at.

“Sure it’s a concern, because he was out several games last year” Wade Phillips said in a Denver Post interview.

And while Ware should be ready for training camp and the regular season, it’s clear that the Broncos won’t be able to use him as they always have if they want him healthy for all 16 games. In that case, guys like Shane Ray and Shaquil Barrett will have to step up even more this season.
