Super Bowl 50 ticket prices on pace to be higher than ever

Bill Romanowski

Want to go the Super Bowl? Well, you better have a sound investment banker in your corner, because it’s going to cost a fortune.

According to SeatGeek, the average ticket price for Super Bowl 50 currently sits at $5,178, well above what we’ve seen in recent years, and they’re only expected to rise from there. So far, the most expensive seats purchased on SeatGeek were a pair of midfield club seats, both of which sold for $12,000.

And it’s not just the Super Bowl. According to SeatGeek analyst Chris Leyden, Super Bowl 50 is on track to be the most expensive ticket in history.

“This year’s Super Bowl is on pace to not only be the most expensive Super Bowl, but the most expensive event, topping things like the Mayweather-Pacquiao boxing match and The Masters,” Leyden said, via CNN.

SeatGeek expects the prices to take a significant jump as tickets reenter the market, too. To this point, the biggest buyer of tickets has been the Boston area, which has accounted for 14 percent of sales. Imagining that those were purchased with the expectation that the New England Patriots would reach the big game, a good deal could be sold off for a significant profit given the Patriots’ loss.

Likewise, the second largest market for tickets has been Santa Clara, itself, accounting for 10 percent of the sales. With all the Silicon Valley money in the area, the prices could be driven up even further.

If you’re looking for a deal, though, there is another option. BroncosFanTravel.com is offering packages for as low as $6,739 that include hotel accommodations, a ticket to the game, admission to the Super Bowl 50 pregame events and roundtrip transportation to and from Levi’s Stadium.

By the time the game rolls around, that whole package may be cheaper than a single ticket. After accounting for hotel and transportation costs, it’s an absolute steal.

It’s no surprise, though, that tickets for a Broncos Super Bowl are through the roof. The Denver Broncos have consistently been one of the most popular teams in the NFL, as evidenced by their sky-high ratings in the AFC Championship game; the Peyton Manning storyline will only make the game’s appeal larger.
