Virgil Green could be in for a big weekend against the Colts

Virgil Green

Football season is back, and so is daily fantasy.

Every week, we’ll be breaking down each position, giving you the information you’ll need to select the best daily fantasy team you can on Sunday.

Today, it’s the tight ends (all prices courtesy of DraftKings):

DraftKings’ Top-10 Tight Ends for Week 2:

  1. Rob Gronkowski ($6,900)
  2. Jordan Reed ($6,800)
  3. Greg Olsen ($5,600)
  4. Travis Kelce ($5,000)
  5. Delanie Walker ($4,500)
  6. Antonio Gates ($4,500)
  7. Martellus Bennett ($4,400)
  8. Julius Thomas ($4,400)
  9. Jason Witten ($4,300)
  10. Gary Barnidge ($4,000)

Best Value: Jason Witten ($4,300)

With a rookie starting at both quarterback and running back, the Dallas Cowboys need a strong veteran presence on their offense, and that man is clearly Jason Witten. Even at the ripe old age of 34, Witten continues to put in work on the football field, hauling in nine receptions for 66 yards on Sunday.

Witten isn’t ever going to have a eight-catch, 150-yard, two-touchdown game like Rob Gronkowski or Jordan Reed may be capable of, but he’s plenty capable of filling up the stat sheet, especially in a PPR league.

Witten is all but a lock for five catches and 50 yards each weekend, and while that’s not going to blow the doors off of any fantasy matchup, it’s about as high of a floor as you’re going to find.

Plus, he’ll be matching up against a Redskins defense that was just torched by the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.

Most Overpriced: Martellus Bennett ($4,400)

Why is Martellus Bennet the No. 7 tight end in fantasy this week?

Without Gronk on the field, Bennett only managed to haul in three receptions for 14 yards. I know he was going up against the Cardinals defense, but that wasn’t a great performance at all. And when you add the fact that Gronk could be returning this week, what upside is there with Bennett?

If you’re going to bet on Bennett, good luck to ya.

Injury Corner: Rob Gronkowski ($6,900)

The return of the Gronk!

Gronk probably could’ve played Week 1, but the Patriots held him out as a precaution, and their gamble paid off — they won. The question, though, is whether he’ll play this week, and the answer is that we don’t know.

But if he does, this might be the cheapest price you’ll ever find Gronk at, and honestly, I wouldn’t really be all that worried about injuries holding him back if he’s on the field. It seems as if Gronk has been playing injured for the last three years and it doesn’t seem to have affected him much.

Broncos Spotlight: Virgil Green ($2,800)

Through one game, Virgil Green is already a third of the way towards matching his mark for most receptions in a season (12), and he did it against one of the best defenses in the NFL at covering tight ends.

If this was supposed to be his breakout season, it looks like he’s off on the right track.

And this week he’ll be facing off against a Colts defense that gave up 39 points and allowed Eric Ebron to haul in five receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Green isn’t likely to catch seven or eight receptions or near 100 yards receiving, but catching a touchdown is well within the realm of possibilities.
