Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe joined Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1340 | FM 104.7 to discuss the hiring of Vic Fangio as the teams’ new head coach, and the hard-nosed veteran has been impressed by what he’s seen.

“He comes off right away as one of those guys that you are like ‘Wow. you want to play [well] for this guy.’ Wolfe said. “You don’t want to let this guy down because you can tell he cares. He really wants to win; he puts that on his shoulders. If he’s willing to do that, it makes us players want to do it for him, too.”

Before the 2017 season, the Broncos had more Super Bowl appearances than losing seasons in the NFL, a feat which has since diminished following two consecutive losing campaigns. With Fangio running the show, both Wolfe and the organization are hopeful the franchise can return to form.

The quest of bringing the Broncos back to the forefront of the NFL starts with the little things. Fangio pointed out in his introductory press conference that the team will not succumb to “death by inches,” a notion that Wolfe believes is essential when building a championship caliber team.

“He hit it right on the head. It starts with the small things,” Wolfe said. “Like he said, if a guy is 30 seconds late, next thing you know he’s coming in a minute late, and then he doesn’t come to the meeting, you got two or three guys doing that kind of thing. It’s a snowball effect. If you let little things go, it becomes a big bump you can trip over.”
