Members of the Denver Broncos organization took a stand with the black community Saturday by leading peaceful protests downtown in support of Black Lives Matter.

Over 70 players, coaches and front office members marched through the streets of Denver, dawning apparel that said “If You Ain’t With Us, You Against Us” and, “I can’t breathe.”

Daily protests have been happening across the globe in response to the death of George Floyd on May 25. Floyd’s death has sparked widespread protests and peaceful demonstrations against police brutality, and has amplified awareness to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Head coach Vic Fangio, CEO Joe Ellis and star pass rusher Von Miller were all in attendance at the event, which was put on in large part because of safety Kareem Jackson.

Miller spoke to the crowd at the start of the protest, and echoed the feelings of many people during these trying times.

“The time is always right to do what’s right,” Miller said via ESPN. “Once we have awareness, we gotta come up out of oblivion…We’ve got to use our moral compass to make decisions on what’s right. Black, white — it doesn’t matter.”

“…I’m proud of these guys,” Miller continued. “I’m proud of Denver. I’m proud of the state of Colorado. We’ve got to keep this going.”

The Broncos formal participation in protest comes after coach Fangio caught flack for saying there was “no discrimination” and that racism did not exist in the NFL.

Fangio later issued an apology for his comments and vowed to listen and work with his players to, “support them and work hand-in-hand to create meaningful change.

By opting to gather for a peaceful protest, the Broncos organization again demonstrated a great ability to stand with the community and also be a pillar for change.
