Demaryius Thomas feels better than he’s ever felt before

Demaryius Thomas

This year’s training camp has been a little different from years past. There seems to be a sense of urgency. The comforting blanket of Peyton Manning at quarterback has suddenly been ripped away, and now Gary Kubiak is left stitching together the remains of one of the league’s most befuddling quarterback situations.

Luckily, those guys still have Demaryius Thomas, one of the best pass catchers in the NFL, and he’s ready to atone for a down season.

“This is probably the best training camp I have ever felt my whole career,” Thomas told Les Shapiro and Eric Goodman on the Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports Radio. “Of course, with dropping the weight, it’s kind of helped me as well. Hands down, this is one of my best training camps of my whole career.”

Last year, Thomas endured about as much as any wideout can, both on and off the field. This offseason, though, he feels as if he’s back in the right mental state, and he’s ready to kickoff the regular season.

“Both physically and mentally, I come to practice everyday. I feel good, and the body feels good,” Thomas said. “I don’t have anything to think about or worry about. Just go out and play now.”

Still, there’s the question about the quarterbacks, and Thomas knows it; he’s taken it in stride, too. Even if Trevor Siemian, a quarterback without a single NFL pass, wins the job, Thomas isn’t worried.

“I don’t think it matters at all,” Thomas said. “You have to start somewhere, and there’s a lot of guys who have been successful in this league that had never had a real snap. If he does start, Trevor, I think he’ll be ready, and it won’t bother him.”

No matter who the quarterback is opening week against the Carolina Panthers, Thomas knows that it will not affect his game play.

“I still have to do my job, making sure I get open, getting the quarterback’s throw,” Thomas said. “It’s basically the same for me.”
