Several roster moves were made by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, as they reduced their roster from 85 to 80 players before the NFL’s 4 PM ET deadline.

The Broncos also named their starter at quarterback against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. Let’s get into those two decisions here:

Denver Broncos roster moves from Tuesday

The Broncos made several roster moves on Tuesday as the NFL’s cutdown deadline of 4 PM ET approached.

Veteran linebacker Joe Schobert, wide receiver Trey Quinn, and running back Stevie Scott were released Tuesday.

Tom Compton has been placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list, while offensive tackle Casey Tucker has been waived/injured.

For the offensive tackle, Compton, his designation means that he cannot return in the regular season until after Week 4.

These moves bring the Broncos roster total to 80 players ahead of Saturday’s game against the Vikings.

Next week, the Broncos will trim their roster from 80 players to 53 by 4 PM ET on Aug. 30.

Billy Turner returns to practice for the Broncos

The Broncos received good news on Tuesday with the return of offensive tackle Billy Turner.

It was announced earlier last week that Turner had been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list, but he was excused from practice.

The veteran tackle was back on the practice field on Tuesday at the UCHealth Training Center.

His return adds intrigue to the Broncos’ ongoing right tackle competition that features Turner, and Calvin Anderson.

Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett and his coaching staff won’t rush to make any decisions at right tackle but will continue to evaluate Turner’s progress returning to the field.

The Broncos will continue to practice throughout this week in preparation for Saturday’s preseason finale against the Vikings.
