It’s time to at least consider Paxton Lynch

Paxton Lynch

Over the last few weeks, the Broncos have taken a step back in offensive productivity. Whether it be the run game or passing game, Denver has looked flat. Many blame the play calling and others blame Trevor Siemian or offensive line. Luckily, the Broncos have a 6-3 record and are still in the conversation to finish atop the AFC West.

Chad Brown, former All-Pro linebacker, joined Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 to talk about the recent play of this team and if they can be better moving forward.

“Better? It’s possible,” Brown said. “Some tweaks in the play calling, maybe the offensive line playing a little better as a unit. Obviously, Trevor Siemian is a young quarterback as far as the number of starts. C.J. Anderson could come back and be healthy and be a part of this running game, which would then allow the play-action passes to be a little more effective.”

With the decline in production from Siemian, fans are calling for Paxton Lynch to become the starter. The offensive line isn’t giving Siemian the protection a quarterback needs, but some feel it’s time to make a change.

“I think it certainly should be considered,” Brown said. “I don’t get a chance to watch a lot of Broncos practice, and so I don’t know where Paxton Lynch is, as far as being ready to be a starter. I think it should be discussed. Trevor Siemian has not been playing great football, and I think it has been getting a little bit worse with his completion percentage over the last couple of weeks. How can you judge a quarterback who is losing confidence in his offensive line?”

The Broncos travel to New Orleans this week to face the Saints, who are 4-4 on the season. After the Saints, Denver has a bye week. Could Paxton Lynch start getting reps in practice over the next three weeks to prepare him to be named the starter in Week 12 against the Chiefs? Siemian’s performance this Sunday could dictate that decision.
