A look into John Elway’s thinking when it comes to the quarterback position

Speculation is running rampant in regards to the Denver Broncos quarterback situation. Will they add someone? Will they stick with what they have? After discussing the situation with his sources, Les Shapiro gave a little insight into what Broncos brass might be thinking.

“I believe John Elway is very, very comfortable with his two quarterbacks: Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch,” Shapiro said during The Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports Radio. “He’s got a quarterback he moved up to get in the first round, who he would like to be on the field sooner rather than later.”

According to Shapiro, Elway thinks he can win with his quarterbacks now. Now only that, bringing in a veteran now might hurt the Broncos in the future.

“If you bring in a veteran, say it’s Tony Romo, you’re stunting the growth of both quarterbacks, both young quarterbacks, particularly the No. 1 draft choice, the first rounder,” he said.

Worth noting, the Broncos devoted the least amount of money to the quarterback position of any NFL team last season. If they can get away with that model, it will open up other avenues for improvement.

“John Elway wants to spend his money in other places, and the first and foremost priority is the offensive line,” said Shapiro. “That’s where they’re going to go heavy on improvement. Whether it be through money, or trade or draft, the offensive line is first and foremost I John Elway’s mind.

“He is not all that worried about the quarterback situation.”
