REPORT: Aqib Talib shot after fight at Dallas nightclub, recovering

Rebecca Lopez of WFAA in Dallas has reported that Denver Broncos Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib is one of three individuals shot Sunday morning following a fight at a Dallas nightclub. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Fox 4 Dallas reported that only two individuals were shot, but it appears one was indeed Talib.

Jeff Darlington of NFL Network contacted Medical City Hospital, who confirmed that Talib had been treated and released from the emergency room.

Cameron Wolfe of the Denver Post confirmed.

The details of the event remain inexact as the story develops, including the information Talib provided police following the incident. The Dallas Morning News crime blog reported that two individuals were shot during the altercation, one inside the club and one outside. According to Lopez, there is a discrepancy between what police believe to have happened and the information Talib provided them.

V Live is an an adult entertainment club that made headlines for three separate incidents last October, including a shooting. Rapper T.I. reportedly spent $30K in one night at the establishment and fellow rapper Nelly was videotaped by TMZ “making it rain” there. In a third incident, a Dallas police recruit was shot at a nearby gas station after getting in an altercation at the club.

The news comes one day before Talib and his teammates are scheduled to meet President Obama at the White House to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl 50 victory. Talib had been particularly vocal about his excitement in taking part in such a rare event.

“There are so many characters in this locker room,” he said on Tuesday, “so just to be able to do something I’ve never done before with these guys, it will be a blast for us.”

According to Mike Klis of 9News, Talib suffered a minor leg injury in the shooting.

Benjamin Allbright of The Big Show on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 received information that Talib is fine and was driven to the hospital in his own vehicle.

The team issued the following official statement Sunday afternoon:

“We are in communication with Aqib Talib, who remains at a Dallas hospital for observation as he recovers from a gunshot wound suffered to his lower right leg on Sunday. He is expected to be released from the hospital soon, and we are glad he is OK and will make a full recovery.

“Our organization has been in touch with the NFL on this matter, and we will provide additional updates as appropriate.”

Talib has not released an official statement, however a source close to Talib has told Klis that the shooting was accidental.

Patrick Smyth, head of Broncos PR, said the team has been in contact with Talib, that he is okay and that the team is gathering more information.

Fellow Broncos cornerback Kayvon Webster posted on Twitter that Talib is “fine” and “thanking the man upstairs.”

According to Lindsay Jones of USA Today, Talib’s teammates are not expecting him at Monday’s trip to the White House.

Later Sunday night Smyth confirmed that Talib will not be released from the hospital until Monday and would not travel with the team.
