WATCH: Stephen Cardullo blasts second birthday home run, a grand slam

The story of Colorado Rockies utility player Stephen Cardullo is a complex one that involved many ups and downs, but the 29-year-old finally got his crack at the show and is making the most of it.

Cardullo came to bat with the bases loaded in the bottom half of the first inning of the team’s game against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers, and delivered a powerful swing, belting the ball over the fence in left center field to put the Rockies ahead 5-1.

Cardullo earned his first Major League hit Monday night, his first home run in the first game of a Wednesday double-header, and now his first grand slam in just six Major League plate appearances.

What away to start a career for a guy who was playing ball in an independent league at this point last year.
