The Denver Broncos have decided to put both Aqib Talib and DeMarcus Ware on the preseason non-football injury list (NFI). The NFI is designated for players who are suffering from an injury that is unrelated to football.

Talib is recovering from a gunshot wound to his lower right leg, while Ware is recovering from a back injury.

According to Kubiak, Talib is expected to be back “soon,” while Ware is expected to come along more slowly; their goal is to have him ready for the start of the regular season.

While “gunshot wound” sounds more worrisome than “back injury,” it’s Ware’s ailments that will have the Broncos more concerned in the long run.

He missed five games last season with back issues, and at 33 years old, those types of injuries are only likely to get worse, not better.
