Today, C.J. Anderson, the Broncos and all their fans learned some unfortunate news: Their No. 1 running back was about to be placed on the shelf for awhile.

On the last play of the first quarter in Monday night’s victory over the Houston Texans, Anderson fell to the ground after a first-down run, clutching his knee. He returned to the game and ended up having one of his best performances of the season, but apparently the injury was more serious than it seemed, because the team has announced that he will be out indefinitely following surgery.

Apparently, Anderson tore his meniscus, but to what extent is still unknown. Depending on the severity, the doctors will either trim or repair the meniscus; the former means he could return this season, while the latter would put him on injured reserve for the remainder of the year.

Before entering into surgery, Anderson released this message on Twitter.

Please make sure to send your good thoughts and prayers out to No. 22. He deserves it.
