We’re on the eve of the NBA Draft Lottery and the Denver Nuggets are hoping for a miracle — well, a minor miracle.

According to ESPN’s fun and addicting lottery game, the Nuggets have a 4.3 percent chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. I played the game, oh I don’t know, maybe 364 times while writing this piece, but my first three attempts saw Denver land the No. 8 overall pick, the No. 2 overall pick and then, on the third try, it happened! The Denver Nuggets landed the first overall pick in the 2016 draft lottery.

ESPN then let me know that there was a 1.9 percent chance of that happening. To which I say, “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!” (in my best Kevin Garnett voice).

The No. 1 overall pick would obviously be outstanding for the franchise, but let’s be honest … it’s not very likely. But a top three pick, why not?

As our friend Adam Mares, from SB Nation’s Denver Stiffs, pointed out on twitter, going all the way back to 1991, the Nuggets have never moved up in the lottery and have moved down eight times! EIGHT TIMES!!

According to CBS Sports, the Nuggets have a 21.8 percent chance to land a top three pick on Tuesday night.

I would say the Nuggets are due. The last time they picked in the top three was 2003, and they, of course, chose Carmelo Anthony, who had just led his Syracuse Orange to a national title as a freshman.

There isn’t a Carmelo Anthony in this draft, but, fortunately for the Nuggets, they don’t exactly need a player like Melo right now. Could a player with that kind of scoring ability help this team? No doubt about it, but it’s not a necessity. As far as what this team should be looking for in the draft, I will cross that bridge when the draft order becomes final (barring a trade) on Tuesday night.

Why does a top three pick mean so much for the Nuggets? For starters, it gives the Nuggets a little bit of national attention, something this team has lacked over the last few seasons. The other and more important thing it does is give the team at least three years with a young, affordable player. Imagine a Nuggets core of Mudiay, Harris and Jokic, with a top three pick added in the mix. With the right coach, whom they have in place right now, this could be, and should be, a very dangerous team!

So what can you do to help? Well, whatever you do for good luck, do it on Tuesday! Lucky rabbits foot? Carry it with you all day. Four leaf clovers? Line your pockets with them! Horse shoes or lucky underwear? Wear them, hold them, touch them. Do whatever it is you have to do to bring the Denver Nuggets luck on Tuesday night!
