It is often said that sometimes the best offense is a good defense. That was certainly the case for the Denver Broncos last season.

According to Pro Football Reference, the Broncos ranked 19th in total offense last season. That’s not very good, and it still doesn’t seem right that that offense helped the Broncos win a Super Bowl.

The Broncos found some success in their running game, but a combination of old age, indecision and injuries at quarterback took it’s toll on the passing game.

Whether Mark Sanchez, Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian take field, the offense is bound to look different than it did last season.

Denver Broncos Senior Digital Reporter Andrew Mason joined Notaro and Big Dee on Tuesday to talk about some of the changes he expects to see on offense heading into next season.

“Fewer mistakes in the passing game, and the ability to throw downfield,” Mason said. “One thing I will say I see from Paxton Lynch already in practice: he can throw that deep ball, and he’s willing to throw that deep ball.”

The three-man race for the staring quarterback position is still wide open, but Mason has seen flashes from all three candidates.

“Siemian probably has better touch at this point,” Mason said. “The way I am seeing Lynch lead his receivers, there some chances for some big plays.”

Sanchez brings the most experience to the table but will have some catching up to do as he competes for the starting position while he recovers from finger surgery. As Mason made it clear, Tuesday was Sanchez’s first day back working with the team.
