Not even a COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent pause to the season can slow down the Avalanche. They returned from an NHL-mandated hiatus Thursday and defeated St. Louis by a 4-2 final. They have now won five straight and are 22-3-3 in their last 28 games. That’s dominance.

Let’s take a look at this matchup, the seventh of eight between the teams this season, and the third of four straight between Colorado and St. Louis, from a betting perspective in our Avalanche vs. Blues betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

As for the Blues, well, they continue to flounder. They’ve lost three in a row, and, even worse, are 3-9-1 in their last 13 contests. Yet, the Blues still control their own destiny to making the playoffs, and have competed hard and kept games close against the Avalanche, something very few teams can say.

Avalanche vs. Blues Betting Pick

Despite their incredible run over the past 28 games, the Avalanche still trail Vegas in the West Division standings (although Colorado has two games in hand), so they are now playing catch up.

However, the Avalanche now know with 100 percent certainty that they will be in the postseason, as their win on Thursday clinched the first two playoff berths in the NHL this season – for themselves and the Golden Knights.

The Blues are still just one point behind Arizona for the final playoff spot, but they have three games in hand. St. Louis has a difficult schedule ahead though, with nine of their final 12 games against the three best teams in the West – Vegas, Colorado and Minnesota.

Bets We Like With an Avalanche Win

Nathan McKinnon to score more than 1.5 points (+124, FanDuel)

It may seem like we are repeating ourselves with the McKinnon bets every game, but he’s been making you a lot of money if you are betting his props. He has a point in 12 straight games and 19-of-20. Even if you have to lay a lot of wood for him to score just one point (-286, DraftKings) it’s probably worth the risk based on his white hot run alone.

The real value, however, is in the multi-point game. In those 20 games where he has registered a point 95% of the time, MacKinnon has 11 multi-point games. That’s still better than half the time, and the odds are in your favor here. We believe in riding streaks until they end. So stick with MacKinnon.

Bets We Like With a Blues Win

Blues +2 Goals and UNDER 6.5 goals (+123, DraftKings)

The one thing about the Blues is they are in almost every game, even during their recent skid. In the last four meetings against Colorado, they lost by just one goal three times and by two goals once. Also, four of the six meetings this season between the teams have been featured fewer than 6.5 goals.

So, if you parlay an alternate spread giving the Blues an extra half puck and bump up the over/under by a half puck, too, you get nice odds on a combo that would have hit in 67% of the meetings between these teams this season.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Avalanche to score first and win the match (+114, DraftKings)

Colorado has scored first in five of the six games between these two teams this season, with the lone time the Blues drew first blood coming Thursday after a long layoff for Colorado (and not to toot our own horn, but we gave you the Blues to score first and the Avalanche to win for +310 in our preview for that game).

This time around, Colorado doesn’t need to find its sea legs anymore and should have great jump from the get-go. Also of note, the Avalanche are 10-2-1 in their last 13 road games. And, being a heavy favorite, they should win this game. All you need is them to score first and win and you can turn -175 into +114. Worth it, in our book.

Avalanche vs. Blues Prediction

Ride the wave. Or in this case, the snow. You can’t bet against the Avalanche they give you a reason not to.

Make it Avalanche 3, Blues 2.
