After a short offseason, the Denver Nuggets were finally back in action on Tuesday night playing real basketball.

In this episode of the Pickaxe and Roll podcast, Ryan Blackburn breaks down what happened in the Denver Nuggets preseason opener, a 115-107 win over the Phoenix Suns. No, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal didn’t play, BUT, Nuggets stars Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray were back on the court!

The Nuggets started their first preseason game without Michael Porter Jr., who’s dealing with a minor ankle injury and should be good to go later this preseason. In his place started newcomer Justin Holiday, partially because second year wing Christian Braun was out, and partially because Holiday had a great training camp. How did he fare in the starter minutes? Ryan breaks it down.

Julian Strawther impressed with 20 points off the bench. Zeke Nnaji had 17 points and played some good defense. Ryan shares all of his rambling thoughts in the first game recap episode of the 2023-24 NBA season.
