The Denver Broncos have released inside linebacker A.J. Johnson and will call up outside linebacker Jeff Holland from the practice squad.

The Broncos signed Johnson in August after he was acquitted on rape charges, but the former Tennessee star never was able to establish himself in the rotation. With Shaq Barrett expected to miss time with a hip flexor, Denver opted to move on from Johnson and improve its depth on the outside.

Holland, a 21-year old undrafted free agent out of the University of Auburn, had 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles for the Tigers in 2017.

The Broncos will face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. MT.
