In the latest episode of the Pickaxe and Roll podcast, Ryan Blackburn recaps the Denver Nuggets preseason matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers, a 116-103 loss in which none of Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, and Michael Porter Jr. suited up.

Hunter Tyson scored 19 points off the bench and looked good on the offensive end, and Braxton Key had some interesting moments in the fourth quarter attacking the Clippers switching defense and grabbing rebounds. Outside of those two, the Nuggets were mostly up and down or subpar across the board. Ryan goes over his concerns with the Nuggets bench unit and takes stock of the options nearing the end of preseason, including Julian Strawther, Zeke Nnaji, Reggie Jackson, and others.

Then, Ryan discusses the comments made by Calvin Booth on the ESPN broadcast regarding Michael Porter Jr. and Bones Hyland stemming from an article written by Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer. Calvin Booth called the comments made in the article an “unfair characterization” and that he wouldn’t have said the comments in that manner publicly. Ryan parses through the comments and discusses some ramifications of those statements.
