CHSAA Championship Saturday, presented by Mile High Sports, in conjunction with ESPN Denver 1600.
The 4A Girls Championship pitted the 25-2 Pueblo South Colts against the 24-3 Evergreen Cougars. The Cougars emerged victorious by a 45-35 final score, led by 11 points from both Claudia Dillon and Baylee Galan-Brown.
Renaud Notaro and Doug Ottewill were on the call from the Denver Coliseum.
Claudia Dillon led all scorers with seven points for Evergreen, who led 11-10 at the end of one quarter. Maya Austin led the way for Pueblo South with six.
Evergreen went on a six-point run to open the quarter, but Pueblo South battled back to get things within three. The Cougars went on another run, though, to take a 25-19 lead into halftime.
The Colts chipped away at the Evergreen lead early in the second half, but Baylee Galan-Brown took control at the midway point to send things into the final quarter four leading by seven.
Normandi Guarienti hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spur a Pueblo South comeback early in the quarter, but a team effort on defense and some clutch free throws from Kristina Schreiber down the stretch delivered the championship for Evergreen.
