Coach Prime, aka Deion Sanders, and Jay Norvell were at the center of the 2023 Rocky Mountain Showdown between Colorado and Colorado State for comments from Norvell directed at Coach Prime and how he carries himself. Interest in the situation sparked once again following the release of the “Coach Prime” show on Amazon Prime, where cameras picked up the postgame interaction between Deion Sanders and Norvell. To add fuel to the fire, Norvell’s wife chimed in with her thoughts on social media in a since-deleted tweet that takes a jab at quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Colorado wound up winning the Rocky Mountain Showdown 43-35 in overtime, which led to the exchange that is being talked about across the sports landscape in Colorado. The postgame interaction between Coach Prime and Jay Norvell has reignited interest in the rivalry between the Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State Rams. The clip from the show sheds light on the competitive edge between the two coaches, providing new insight into the postgame interaction.

The Buffs finished with a 4-8 record in Coach Prime’s first season as head coach. As for the Rams, they finished with a 5-7 under the command of Coach Norvell. Both programs are trending upwards following the season, and should be considerably better when they next clash on the football field. The 2023 version of the Rocky Mountain Showdown was held in Boulder at Folsom Field. The game shifts venues to Fort Collins in 2024 in what will be one of the most highly anticipated games of the college football season.

Aniello Piro and Chase Howell talked about the rivalry between Prime and Norvell on The Sko Show powered by Drives At Mile High and The Fan Cave, and even got a call from “Mrs. Norvell” herself to discuss the situation.
