It’s been a good few days for Colorado Mammoth goaltender Dillon Ward. On Saturday, he got his first career postseason win. On Monday, he was named the recipient of the Gary Gait Award, given to the team’s most valuable player annually.

In his fourth year, Ward finished second in the NLL in both save percentage (.793) and goals-against-average (10.89); backstopping the league’s best scoring defense. He was quick to share the credit with his teammates.

“It’s an honor to be viewed as the MVP of this team – there are so many special players on this roster,” said Ward. “Without the defense in front of me, I wouldn’t be able to play the way I do.”

This is the first time Ward has received the Gary Gait Award; though the 26-year-old was named to the NLL All-Pro Second Team in 2016; was on the All-Rookie Team in 2014; and was named MVP and Top Goaltender of the 2014 World Lacrosse Championships.
